摘要

US President Barack Obama's State of the Union address on 28 January highlighted the lack of progress in determining the future direction for the United States in the Afghan war, as Washington is still working on finding a solution that would allow it to keep some troops there. Americans can "give thanks for a war [in Afghanistan] that after 12 long years is finally coming to an end", Obama said, to much applause, in the opening lines of the annual prime-time policy speech to a joint session of the US Congress.
