Footage showing a McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom Ⅱ jet carrying out an airstrike in Iraq indicates the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) has joined the fight against the Islamic State militant group. At least one F-4 was seen conducting a bombing run against ground targets in Iraq's Diyala province on 23 November in footage shot by an Al-Jazeera news team, which erroneously identified the aircraft as an Iraqi fighter. Iran and Turkey are the only regional operators of the F-4, but Turkey has been unwilling to get involved in the conflict militarily, indicating the jet was an IRIAF aircraft.
