US Marine Corps (USMC) General John Allen, commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, has been cleared of wrongdoing over correspondence with a woman involved in a scandal that led CIA Director David Petraeus to resign. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta "was pleased to learn that allegations of professional misconduct were not substantiated by the investigation", Pentagon Press Secretary George Little told reporters in a 22 January statement.
