Raytheon has been awarded a USD385.7 million contract to provide the US Navy's (USN's) next-generation Air Missile Defence Radar (AMDR). The system is intended to equip the Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) Flight Ⅲ destroyer with the simultaneous ability to track ballistic missiles and provide area- and self-defence against air and surface threats. The contract, awarded by the US Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) on 10 October, includes options for procurement of up to nine radars that may be exercised following a Milestone C decision planned for Fiscal Year 2017. If exercised, the options would bring the cumulative value of this contract to USD 1.633 billion, according to NAVSEA.
