Raytheon has been awarded a USD385.7 million contract to provide the US Navy's (USN's) next-generation Air and Missile Defence Radar (AMDR). The system is intended to equip the Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) Flight III destroyer with the simultaneous ability to track ballistic missiles and provide area- and self-defence against air and surface threats. The contract, awarded by the US Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) on 10 October, includes options to procure up to nine radars, options that may be exercised following a Milestone C decision due in Fiscal Year 2017. The options would bring the contract's cumulative value to USD 1.633 billion, according to NAVSEA.
