Boeing has been awarded a USD24.7 million contract for the manufacture of 13 low-rate initial production (LRIP) QF-16 target drones for the US Air Force (USAF). The contract, which was awarded on 10 October but announced eight days later, is for the exercise of the LRIP option under the pre-engineer-ing and manufacturing development (EMD) basic contract. It is expected to be completed by 9 October 2015. Boeing recently completed the USD72 million pre-EMD phase of the QF-16 programme (also referred to as Phase 1) with the conversion of the first six Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters into unmanned drones.
