The Republic of Korea Army (RoKA) plans to acquire 800 EVO-105 truck-mounted howitzers, Samsung Techwin officials have confirmed. Speaking to IHS Jane's at ADEX 2013, Kwon Sunghwan, director of new business, domestic marketing, at Samsung Techwin, said the system development would start in 2014, ahead of fielding by the army in 2017. The EVO-105 consists of a standard South Korean KM500 (6×6) five-tonne truck chassis with the rear cargo area modified to accept the upper part of the US 105 mm M101 towed howitzer. It uses the fire control system from Samsung Techwin's 155 mm/52-calibre K9 Thunder tracked self-propelled gun, which is in service with the RoKA and Turkey.
