Pakistan's role as a facilitator of the NATO-led war in Afghanistan remained shrouded in uncertainty throughout the Chicago summit. A last-minute invitee, Pakistani President Asif All Zardari left a tripartite meeting with US President Barack Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai empty-handed, despite high expectations among some Pakistani officials. In addition, Obama left Pakistan off a list of countries he thanked for assisting the international operation in Afghanistan.
