Defence companies in Australia are to face more rigorous government oversight of troubled projects with the choice being either remediation or cancellation, a senior Department of Defence (DoD) official warned on 16 February. Warren King, deputy chief executive officer of the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), told an industry conference in Canberra that the next few years would see an even greater emphasis on the government's list of so-called Projects of Concern. "If we together don't focus on a project that is on the list, it could be cancelled; it won't matter whether you're a multinational supplier or an SME [small to medium enterprise], that's what the net effect will be," he said.
