A four-day visit to China by Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in May was meant to celebrate 60 years of friendship between the two countries. However, the focus quickly changed to defence ties and a deepening of already substantial Sino-Pakistani defence relations took place. Officials travelling with Gilani reported that China had agreed to speed up the delivery of 50 JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft, which are being co-manufactured by the two countries. Additionally, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is expected to have produced a total of 42 of its own JF-17 aircraft by the end of 2011.
