The United States has outlined plans to forward deploy Littoral Combat Ships (LCSs) to Singapore as Washington attempts to reassure its Asian allies about its commitment to the region. Addressing the annual Shangri-La Dialogue security summit - which is run by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) - in Singapore on 4 June, US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said the US would "continue to maintain and enhance our traditional presence in the Asia-Pacific region".
