NATO's next test of its Active Layered Theatre Ballistic Missile Defence (ALTBMD) programme in November will involve dummy moving targets to establish the absolute fidelity of exchanged tracking and command and control (C2) data across NATO command networks. This follows a first - but simulated - field test of ALTBMD's interim capability in Germany in late August. "We've tested ALTBMD and it passed [muster] in Germany so we know it works," Alessandro Pera, the programme manager of the ALTBMD programme, told Jane's. The 22-24 August test involved simulated threats and a complex array of space and land-based sensors that proved ALTBMD's strike-to-kill ability, although only at the cyber level.
