The troubled UN Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) will be downsized by nearly half following an agreement reached on 23 April between the UN peacekeeping department and the N'Djamena government of President Idriss Deby.rnDeby has been a reluctant host to the peacekeepers, who were initially hatted as an EU intervention force - before MINURCAT assumed responsibility in March 2009 - to assure stability in eastern Chad and northeastern CAR, partly due to the war in neighbouring Sudan's Darfur region and the consequent influx of refugees.
