摘要

Poland's air force has produced a preliminary roadmap for modernisation of Its ground-based air defence (GBAD) missile systems. Existing systems are scheduled for retirement by 2016. The air force Is also planning for new systems to enter service in two waves: between 2009-12 and then 2014-18. For the first time the air force has admitted that emerging threats and delays in modernisation of legacy assets will mean the service needs to spend approximately PLN20 billion (USD8.62 billion) to completely refurbish its surface-to-air missile (SAM) battalions. However, the Ministry of Finance is unlikely to sanction spending on such a scale.
