The US Navy (USN) retired its Rockwell T-2 Buckeye jet trainer aircraft from service following a ceremony at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola in Florida on 22 August. The ceremony at Training Air Wing 6's squadron VT-86 (the last USN squadron to operate the type) NAS Pensacola marked the end of a service life that spanned 50 years and 3.4 million flight hours. The USN officially announced at the end of August that the remain- ing T-2 aircraft will be shipped to the boneyard at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona for storage. The T-2 will now be completely replaced by the Boeing/BAE Systems T-45C Goshawk advanced jet trainer aircraft, which first entered USN service in 1997.
