GKN agreed on 15 September to acquire the Airbus manufacturing site in Filton, UK, for GBP136 million (USD244 million): a deal that is consistent with both Airbus' Power8 turnaround plan and GKN's drive to double the size of its aerospace operations by 2017. The UK aerospace and defence components specialist said that the acquisition - which is subject to final regulatory approval and is expected to conclude by the end of 2008 - is intended to add GBP375 million to group revenues in 2009. Furthermore, GKN said that it will more than double its large civil aircraft structures backlog from GBP4.5 billion to GBP10 billion.
