The Telegraph newspaper in the U.K. and several other news organizations report that GKN Plc (Reddich, Worcestershire, U.K.) hopes to complete the purchase, at a price of more than ?150 million (299 million dollars), the Airbus UK factory in Filton by midsummer. According to the report, Sir Kevin Smith, GKN's chief executive, says the site was put on the block by Airbus Industrie (Toulouse, France) in the wake of recent financial difficulties. The divestment is part of Airbus' Power8 production restructuring program, which is designed to help the plane builder cut costs and streamline operations (see www.compositesworld.com/hpc/issues/2007/ September/111967), and will add annual revenues of around 300 million pounds(597 million dollars) and take turnover of the aerospace division to more than 1 billion pounds(almost 2 billion dollars)--about 30 percent of the company.
