Market-changing defence mergers have catapulted activity values to USD1 30.4 billion during the three months to 30 June. This compared with USD5.4 billion in the three months prior and an average of USD 10 billion each quarter over the decade before. The merger of Raytheon and United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in a USD 121 billion all-stock transaction, creating a company with combined sales of about USD74 billion, was announced in June. The deal will create Raytheon Technologies Corporation as one of the largest defence organisations worldwide, following UTC's absorption of Rockwell Collins in 2017.
