On 19 November 2020 French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly, while visiting a Dassault Aviation factory in Seclin in the north of France, signed a contract for seven Falcon 2000 LXS aircraft configured for maritime surveillance for the French Navy. This was the second contract awarded within a year by the French Ministry of Defence (MoD) to Dassault Aviation for a military variant of one its Falcon business jets. Under the first contract, signed in December 2019, the Direction Generale de l'Armement (DGA), the French defence procurement agency, awarded its signals intelligence (SIGINT) aircraft Falcon 8X ARCHANGE contract to Dassault Aviation and Thales. Modifying Falcon business jets into a military or governmental platform is nothing new for Dassault Aviation. One of the first major contracts the French company logged for a mission version of a business jet was signed in 1977 when the US Coast Guard ordered 41 Falcon 20s modified for maritime surveillance. That aircraft entered service in 1982 as the HU-25 Guardian.
