摘要

The NATO Air Command and Control System (ACCS) was conceived before the end of the Cold War to provide an alliance-wide air command-and-control (C2) system that would support the most effective use of air power and replace the various existing national systems which were ageing, had limited functionality, problems of interoperability, and which had no common support concept. ACCS has since evolved in response to the changing geo-strategic situation, new military concepts and advances in technology. The vision is now of a system that is the NATO standard for air operations and which will provide full C2 interoperability of air assets over an 81 million km~2 theatre of operations (from Norway to Turkey), and with a deployable capability; has integrated ballistic missile defence (BMD) capabilities; will be upgraded through spiral development; and has common training and procedures and a centralised maintenance concept.
