Were they alive today, the renowned maritime strategists Alfred Mahan and Julian Corbett would doubtless be extremely interested in the security problems currently arising in the maritime domain and how best to apply maritime power to address the diversity of threats.rnMahan would possibly have advocated a strategy based on intervention, tackling the problems at source; Corbett might have argued that sea control is only ever a temporary achievement, instead suggesting strategies that create local areas of sea control which are able to move dynamically.
