Bangkok Dock is to build a 90 m offshore patrol vessel (OPV) for the Royal Thai Navy based on a design provided by UK-based shipbuilder BVT Surface Fleet.rnAlthough the contract between the two companies is for one ship, all parties involved "have a view that this will increase - budget permitting", a BVT spokesman told Jane's.rnThe BVT design will be adapted by Bangkok Dock to suit the Thai navy's requirement for a multimis-rnsion OPV intended for exclusive economic zone patrols, fishery protection tasks, disaster relief, and search and rescue.rnThe UK company would not disclose the value of the contract -which was announced on 30 June - but said that the helicopter-capable ship was scheduled for delivery within 36 months.
