Canada is set to recapitalise its lightweight torpedo inventory through a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal with the US government. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) advised on 17 May that the State Department had approved an FMS case, under which Canada would upgrade its current inventory of Mk 46 Mod 5A (Shallow Water) lightweight torpedoes to the Mk 54 standard. Estimated to cost USD387 million, the deal would cover 425 Mk 54 conversion kits, plus containers, recoverable exercise torpedoes (REXTORP), fleet exercise sections (FES) and fuel tanks, air launch accessories, spares, training, publications, and support and test equipment.
