Nudge is an important book, despite the fact that it is highly readable, thus breaking the negative correlation between scholarly contribution and accessibility. It summarizes, but goes beyond, much of the past writing of its two well known authors. It is a good reading for almost anyone, but especially for scholars interested in the application of "behavioral decision making" to the real world, and for students at all levels in courses that discuss this issue.rnNudge is important because it adds a new branch to the "prescriptive" part of the field of judgment and decision making. This field has characterized itself (for example, in the web page of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making) as concerned with "normative, descriptive, and prescriptive" models. Normative models, such as expected utility theory, are the standards that researchers use to evaluate judgments and decisions (usually in the laboratory, where they can create situations that allow normative models to be tested).
