OFTEN WEHEAR that a flame retardant (FR) is too expensive to use. When presenting a new product for use in coating formulations the First question asked is how much does it cost. For instance, in some Backcoating formulations a flame retardant that runs about 0.09 per pound Is considered untouchable by another costing 4.00 per pond. When the Fact is presented that the 4.00 per pound flame retardant is more efficient, The next question asked is, "How much more efficient?" The questioner Then does the mental math of dividing the cost per pound of one by the Other, $4/0.09=44.4 and then asks, "IS it 44 more times efficient?"
