Requirements from original equipment manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers to the automotive companies have catalyzed the need to develop new and innovative approaches for the design and construction of air bag (cushion) ma- terials. From these requirements, innovative yarns, new coating approaches, and a family of chemically engineered textile substrates were developed to meet the challenges demanded by cost-performance formulas, recyclability, and designer flexibility. These differentiated approaches represent tomorrow's hybrid solution to the next generation of automotive air bags.
