Barnard and St James' new guide Listen. Write. Present poses as a "sleek primer" (back cover) for successful writers and oral communicators. The authors have found a singular voice to represent two separate disciplines-English and communication-with an improbable audience of young science professionals, technology professionals, and business professionals in Fortune 500 companies. A hybrid of advice categories reminiscent of Miss Manners and Dear Abby, this book offers 245 prescriptive statements of the "Do" and "Don't" type. Some of the prescriptions have examples, some have explanations, and a few have neither. Organized into six chapters entitled "Play," "Listen," "Write," "Present," "Meet," and "Serve,"
