摘要

The most important characteristic of a GIS is the capacity to execute spatial analysis, meaning the management of spatial data (geographic data) with the purpose of obtaining information (reports) on the studied area. These characteristics of spatial analysis distinguish the Geographic Information System (GIS) software from CAD software. Managing the spatial data is done based on specific algorithms using procedures dedicated to this data categories. The spatial analysis is used for evaluation, prognosis, interpretation and comprehension, often called modelling. In GIS there are 4 main types of spatial analysis: spatial overlapping and continuity analysis, surface analysis, linear analysis and raster analysis. The result of spatial analysis is enabling spatial and non-spatial (attributes) query and generating new date starting from existing ones. We have to take into account that we should choose the operations and their order of action on the data.
