It is obvious that tools for the accurate identification of aircraft and rotorcraft dynamics play an important and increasingly vital role in designing flight control systems, assessing vehicle handling qualities, and ensuring overall systems safety. Given the inherent complexity of the vehicles in question, an approach that espouses a complete and tractable engineering treatment of the discipline, including flight-test examples, is of prime importance. Both the first and second editions of Review of Aircraft and Rotorcraft System Identification -Engineering Methods with Flight Test Examples provide such a treatment. Supporting the theoretical foundations provided in both editions of this book is the software package Comprehensive Identification from Frequency Responses developed at NASA. Ames Research Center. This software and user's manual are available at no cost with the book via the AIAA Web site and includes a student version.
