Faced with growing competition for passengers due to the rise of app-based mobility services, Shenzhen Municipal Bus Group realised in 2016 it was too had to diversity its services - essentially by introducing more bespoke mobility solutions for its customers making use of latest generation technologies. In 2017, they partnered with Chinese ride hailing service DiDi to create the joint venture (JV) Youdian Bus.
