The two editors clearly state in the opening sentence of the Introduction their overriding objective: 'As long-time advocates for urban teenagers, we Wrote this book to show how librarians can use current research about urban teens, their information habits and preferences, and their use of libraries to improve public and school library services' (p.2). They successfully achieve this objective through the application of two strategies: presentation of research findings from a variety of recent United States (US) studies; and presentation of best practices, again from several US libraries. The entire volume does have a sense of unity often missing from edited collections, undoubtedly helped by the fact that the two editors, singly, together or with third parties, were responsible for eight of the 13 chapters.
