Naval leadership and management is an edited collection of ten papers distilled from a conference held in September 2009 to honour Professor Michael Duffy. Richard Harding's thorough introduction provides a discussion of leadership and management, terms that are seldom used separately, but which describe two very different aspects of command. It notes, first, that 'leadership' is more social, and implies a motivational interaction between a leader and those being led. In comparison, 'management' describes the administrative aspects of command.
