This article discusses the development of an in-service presentation for staff working with students with severe disabilities, regarding creating inexpensive sensory kits. Multisensory activities can be valuable in creating meaningful experiences for these students, and simple everyday materials can be used to add sensory components to any activity and to work on a variety of functional skills. Examples of materials and activities are provided, as are strategies for thinking “outside the box” while creating unique sensory experiences.
