In 2002 I learnt that Falmouth College of Art had acquired eleven Loueet Megado looms, 16- and 32-shaft, both mechanical and computer-driven. Having just bought one of these computer-driven looms I made arrangements to visit the college to view theirs and the facilities that were available for a possible multi-shaft weaving course in Spring 2005 and, ultimately, Summer School 2007. Ingrid Boesel has written the Fiberworks program with her husband Bob Keates. They work closely with the computer side of Loue't looms, based in Canada. What better than to ask her over to teach? Two courses were organised: the first for computer design, to be held at a local comprehensive school in one of its computer laboratories. This was aimed at people who could see the benefits of a computer program as an aid to their ability to design without necessarily wanting to progress to multi-shaft weaving.
