It is the precondition for fault identification that the model whose unknown parameters represent fault properties is identifiable and it is the necessary and sufficient condition for local identifiability that the Fisher information matrix of the system formulated as a state-space model is nonsingular. Here the finite element method is used to make a model of a faulty rotor system more accurate and then the model is transferred into the state-space model. As a common demonstration, the identifiability of the model of the cracked rotor including unknown crack depth and mass unbalance is investigated. The results indicate that the model is identifiable even in the condition of one observed point response.
