The Synergy Ceramics Project has been started jointly by industries, academies and national institutes since1994 under the Industrial Science and Technology Frontier Program of the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), MITI (METI), parts of which have been promoted by NEDO. The present R&D project has focused on the ceramic processing development for the systematic research of structure control (1st stage: 1994-1998) and for the development of Synergy Ceramics in which the plural numbers of properties are expected to be compatible with each other in various service environments ( 2nd stage: 1999-2004). The present paper describes the outline of the project and its present status.
