摘要

Peltica specialise in processing and finishing two types of fish skins from the Amazon River and its contributories in northern Brazil. The Pirarucu is a huge fresh water species, which commonly grows up to five feet. They also tan and finish the smaller Tilapia species which grow up to two or three feet. "Previously the fish were caught for food and the skins thrown away. We now source the fish skins 5,000km away from the tannery in Novo Hamburgo in the south of the country directly from the Amazon", says Maicon Cristiano Mossman, Director. "The larger fish can weigh up to 120kg and the Brazilian government provides native Amazonians an annual quota of 6,000 fish a year which are hunted by traditional spear technique", he told Leather International.
