Today there exists a lot of systems for different car upholstery articles which fulfil the following requirements: 1. the systems have to be environmentally friendly. That means they contain no toxic or hazardous components 2. the systems must be low VOC systems with a minimum of solvent 3. the systems show very high fastness properties as well as having a nice optical aspect 4. there exists upgrading technologies which lead to a tremendous improvement of the cutting yield 5. and last but not least the new systems are easy to handle. This means the finisher can work with a small number of products which are safe and easy to handle Apart from these improvements in the systems for the upholstery, car manufacturers have a lot of new tests which are often far from the reality of use. The only way to overcome these problems is to have better communications between the tanner, the car maker and the chemical industry so as to improve the leather for the end user.
