Arcelor has conducted a large program called "The Cycle of Iron" with steel users and steel scrap recyclers, in order to emphasize the sustainability of Steel recycling. The results of this work can already be applied to the Design for Recycling of goods that incorporate steel. Home appliances are made of materials that are easily recyclable, such as steel, aluminum or copper, and of others, which are not much recycled, such as plastics or foam. Because poorly recyclable materials have to be disposed of, their recycling value is negative. Ecodesign of appliances needs to tackle this issue. One simple solution is to include more metals in the design of new products.
