I'm not your typical auto owner. I have my priorities and flying always came before auto ownership. Buying new autos every few years has to be great fun, but I took a different route in order to fly a lot and buy a fairly new Bonanza for cash early on. A new vehicle loses 20 percent or more of its value driving off the lot. And that doesn't count interest payments for many owners. To each his own; my route was not typical but has worked very well for me so I could afford to fly and own a plane. I've only owned (and paid cash for) three new vehicles (total) since graduating from college in 1968 and starting my military career-a '69 Camaro, a 78 Chevy Van, and my current daily driver a '94 K-1500 pickup. (I don't count my class-A motor home as it was only driven 24,000 miles in six years and then happily sold for a $20K loss.)
