The report examines the international market for car rental in five major markets: 1. France 2. Germany 3. Italy 4. Spain 5. UK The period under review is 1995-1999 for current data and 1999-2004 for the market forecasts. The report concentrates on short-term passenger car rental only. Leasing and contract hire, where leasing is combined with a maintenance contract, are excluded from the scope of this report. Also excluded are the hiring of large vans and trucks and the hiring of chauffeur-driven vehicles, unless otherwise stated. Throughout the report the phrases "car rental" and the variant "vehicle rental" should be taken to refer to this range of activities as a whole, except where the context clearly indicates a different, more explicit sense.
