Finishing PET with cellulose allows creating fibers that combine positive properties of polyester and cotton. Various ionic liquids - a promising new class of solvents - dissolve cotton as well as other cellulosic materials without any problems. Such solutions can be used to carry out finishing processes without laborious derivatization procedures. The finished PET fibers do not feel like cotton up to now, however, do exhibit other interesting properties.
