Antimicrobial finishes on the fabric can minimize the transfer of microorganisms on to the wearer by creating a physical barrier. This project involves the plant extracts of Cassia senna and Tridax procdmbens which were screened for their antimicrobial activity. The herbal extracts were applied on cotton fabrics and the antimicrobial activity of the finished fabrics was assessed against bacteria and fungi that normally exist in hospitals. Antimicrobial AATCC standard tests are conducted for all the treated samples which showed better results in high polarity solvent extracts. Ethanol was selected as a best solvent for extraction. The extract is applied on cotton fabric by pad-dry-cure method with cross-linking agents (alum). The treated samples have been tested for activity as per AATCC 147, AATCC 100 and AATCC30 agar diffusion test methods.
