Russian President Vladimir Putin, after observing that US President Barack Obama is involved in other internal and international affairs, decided to rush in supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad, especially after the negotiations between the Syrian opposition and the regime did not come out with any tangible results. Putin realised that all promises given to him assuring the guarantee of the Russian interests after the departure of Assad will not be fulfilled by the armed opposition, and hence abandoning Assad is becoming a strategic issue for Russia.
