Currently, the Bundeswehr is not only in a fundamental reform, but it will be completely "aligned anew," accompanied by a conscription suspension and substantial staff- and budget cuts. Traditionally at the end of each year, our sister magazine WEHRTECHNIK interviews the Chiefs of Staff on what the passing and the next year. Chief of Defence Staff, General Volker Wieker, underlined in his interview that for the first time ever Bundeswehr planning can take a complete look at the forces, from operations command to procurement. "As a result, I expect a more mission-oriented balance of resources, modern equipment and an efficient organisation," said Gen. Wieker. "The fact that we must be able to do more in the future is a result of increasing security challenges."
