The indigenous production system is based on four main state-owned companies. Pakistan Ordnance Factories, which produces a wide range of weapons, ammunition, clothing, propellants and explosives for the three services and for export; Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works, the only shipbuilding company in Pakistan, which is certified to build all kinds of vessels up to 26,000 deadweight tonnes; Heavy Industries Taxila, which produces tanks (including the AL-KHALID MBT) and other military vehicles, guns and missiles; and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, the country's key aircraft manufacturer.
