The Cheese Group is one of Dairy UK's newest committees, but much has been achieved since the first meeting was held just 16 months ago. At the outset, the agreement of Andy Smith, Dairy UK Board member and Group Managing Director at Lactalis McLelland, to accept the responsibility of Chairman of the fledgling committee was key. This move showed the industry that Dairy UK and its member companies were taking the establishment of the group very seriously. Andy's appointment also provided a direct and effective link with the Dairy UK Board and ensured that representation from member companies on the group would be of a sufficiently high level to make it effective. Of course, Andy's 30 years of experience within the industry and his senior position within the world's largest natural cheesemaker, also helps!
