In business, you have to invest in the future to grow and prosper. That goes for any business, including a non-profit professional association like SMPTE. It can be difficult to do, however. First there are the questions of where to invest. What is our five-year strategy to know where the least risk and best return is likely to be? Then there's the money part of the equation: What is the cost of such investments? What's the ROI (return on investment)? And finally, once you've overcome the unknowns of strategy and cost, getting through a project and seeing the fruits of the investment. All great challenges, for sure.
