To thrive in a changing climate, a species may need to move to areas with a constant average temperature. Such mobility depends on an ability to keep pace with a moving climate and on the absence of physical barriers. This study uses the velocity of climate change to construct a map of shifting ecological climate niches. The map indicates areas that will act as climate sources and sinks, and geographical barriers that are likely to slow migration.
