摘要

The Keio University School of Medicine (Keio) and Keio University Hospital were founded in 1917 by Shibasaburo Kitasato on the principle that basic medical research and clinical medicine go hand-in-hand in the development of medical science. As Keio approaches its centenary in 2017, we are looking toward the many challenges - in teaching, research and clinical areas - that the next 100 years will bring. For some time we have been strengthening our education and research infrastructures, for example by opening the Center of Integrated Medical Research in 2001. This will allow us to nurture the next generation of physician scientists that will take on these challenges. Through our collaborations with top-level international institutions such as RIKEN in Japan, the Karolinska Institutet and Lund University in Sweden and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, Keio is working at the forefront of education and research in stem cell therapies and human metabolomic systems biology.
